Introduction
The original RU Revising Science game was launched in 2006 to help students revise for their Science GCSE’s. Five years on, the game needed freshening up to meet young people's ever changing views and expectations, whilst still fulfilling their learning requirements.
Brief
The BBC asked Numiko to re-make ‘RU Revising Science’ for the GCSE Bitesize site, to reflect a teenager’s typical environment; using a range of media technology and receiving lots of messages in a short space of time from different people all wanting attention. The BBC were also keen to add English and Maths questions.
It was vital that the trio of RU Revising games felt quick to launch, quick to play and fun; retaining the light-hearted nature of the existing science game, but in an environment more typical to a teenager’s modern day world.
Solution
To appeal to students, we created a ‘desk scene’ as the backdrop for the game; basically a snap-shop of a typical student’s desk, with all the usual mess and chaos that is synonymous with teenagers studying for their GCSEs. Using the BBC Bitesize branding guidelines as well as our own in-house User Experience experts, we could ensure the whole game felt right for the GCSE audience.
The games are designed to be easy to update for the BBC Bitesize team, so they can be used across different subjects and content can be easily amended should the curriculum change.
