Desperate Scousewives is a brand new series on E4 featuring a group of independent girl Scousers, whose world revolves around football, a fierce passion for fashion and a hankering for the WAG lifestyle. Desperate to bag themselves a footballer, these ladies spend every waking hour preening to bag themselves the man of their dreams.
E4 commissioned us with building the Tweet-O-Meter to measure how much the #desperatescousewives gang are being talked about on Twitter, and who's popular and who's not! Over the series, it will be swings and roundabouts as the characters fall in and out of favour with the public based on their antics and just how far they're prepared to go to rule the roost.
Numiko designed a clean and striking visual representation of the characters' relative popularity in the form of a chart. To give it a fun feel, we used caricatures of the show's lead characters to reflect their larger-than-life personalities, growing and shrinking the characters as their popularity changes.
The Tweet-O-Meter app works by pulling in the latest 500 tweets and updates every 30 seconds based on mentions of the characters' usernames. It's not 100% scientifically accurate – it's just for fun!
The app launched on e4.com at the start of the series on Monday 28th November and there's already been thousands of tweets about the show, leading to some interesting changes in popularity!
“Twitter is a hotbed for chatter around reality drama shows, and since the cast of Scousewives are all big tweeters in their own right, it made perfect sense for us to capitalise on this activity. Our Numiko app takes the real-time stats around the ‘talkability’ of each cast member and presents it back to the audience in the slightly tongue-in-cheek, irreverent way that we love at E4.com. It’s a great way of tracking the discussion during the episode.”
