Jon Snow's 2011 Quiz of the Year is a one-off programme for Channel 4, which looks back over the last 12 months of news in both Britain and abroad, for what has been a turbulent year of earthquakes, riots, uprisings and royal weddings!
After the success of other online apps we've built for Channel 4, we were commissioned by the broadcaster to create an online quiz and the webpage to support the TV show and allows users to test their own knowledge of the events of 2011.
We created a timed quiz made up of 20 multichoice questions that cover some of 2011's biggest news stories. Users have a maximum of 20 seconds to answer each one, putting them on the spot and really testing just how much they were paying attention to the year's events.
At the end of the quiz, users can choose to share their performance or even challenge their friends to beat their score by sharing a link via on Facebook, Twitter and Google+. Users can also view average scores and see what percentage of people got each question right.
"We know from past experience that audiences enjoy interacting with current affairs programmes to test their knowledge of events. It has been such a momentous year for news, that this is just the right time to test the nation’s knowledge of what really happened in 2011”.
Vicky Taylor, Commissioning Editor New Media, News and Current Affairs - Channel 4.
