Senior Project Manager

We're looking for a highly capable, experienced senior project manager to join our talented team of digital specialists.

As our Senior Project Manager, you'll be joining an experienced team helping to deliver exceptional projects. Our clients include: The Eden Project, The Booker Prizes, The British Museum, The Science Museum Group, Channel 4, Ofgem, Chatham House, The King’s Fund, The National Archives, Teenage Cancer Trust, and The Frances Crick Institute. As you can see, we choose to work with organisations that exist to make a positive difference in the world.

We love what we do and our clients love working with us. We cultivate a collaborative ‘one team’ approach, rather than the standard client-agency model. With our clients we are open, honest, plain-talking, efficient, and highly capable. We’d like you to exhibit these qualities too. Internally, our culture is relaxed, informal and supportive.

Project management at Numiko is more than just keeping an eye on budgets and timelines. As a role it’s always varied, sometimes challenging, but ultimately very rewarding.

About the role

Our PMs play a pivotal role in delivering successful work, being the single point of contact between the client and the studio. They have a deep understanding of the project, leading and directing teams as well as coaching, facilitating and supporting the client.

As such you’ll need to be a self-starter, able to hit the ground running and learn on the job if necessary. We want a project manager who can lead from the front, build a strong rapport with clients and get the best out of our delivery teams.

While we have a proven project delivery framework, we’re not dogmatic. As such, you’ll be confident enough to flex your delivery approach depending on the needs of the client and the project.

What to expect

We have a comprehensive induction and onboarding process, so you can orient and familiarise yourself, and grow in confidence without being thrown in the deep end.

On your first day:

  • We’ll ask you to come into the Numiko office
  • We’ll introduce you to Numiko staff, show you around, and talk you through basic company information
  • You’ll be given a new laptop, set up with all the software and accounts you’ll need
  • We’ll talk you through the tools we use and how / why we use them
  • We’ll give you a short reading list, including our Employee Handbook and our fully-documented Project Framework

In your first week:

  • We’ll set up one-to-one sessions with all departments, so you can get an understanding of what each department does and how they work together (we don’t outsource our work to third parties or have satellite offices)
  • We’ll talk you through our company vision, values and strategy
  • We’ll pair you with another project manager, so you can sit in on live projects and get a better idea of how we work

In your first month:

  • We’ll set up a number of in-depth workshops for you such as: how a project moves through the agency from responding to a tender to in-life support; how we use Jira and Confluence; how to apply the Project Framework; how to use our Content Management Systems (Drupal and Wagtail)
  • We’ll give you some worked real-world project examples to look through
  • We’ll give you access to test CMS environments so you can safely play around with our websites as a CMS user
  • We’ll give you some project management tasks to perform, growing in responsibility, but always supported by a project manager until you’re ready to go it alone
  • You’ll agree a structured personal development plan with your line manager
  • You’ll be able to meet everyone in the agency during our monthly get-together, when we order in lunch, do company updates and go for drinks afterward

  • 3+ years’ experience in a senior project manager role in a digital agency / software development environment
  • Delivery of large, complex projects to a value of at least £100,000
  • Successful delivery of projects on time and to budget
  • Careful and constructive scope management, taking into account project budgets and timeframes
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Capturing requirements, writing specification documents, statements of work etc
  • Budget management, tracking and reporting; project P&L ownership
  • Project resource planning, forecasting and tracking
  • Identifying, managing and mitigating issues and risks
  • Managing the full project lifecycle, from discovery through to in-life support
  • Leading workshops, meetings and ceremonies: estimation, sprint planning, retrospectives, stand-ups etc
  • Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management skills
  • Guiding, managing and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams (designers, agency specialists, front and back-end developers, QA test engineers)
  • An applied knowledge of agile (Scrum) and waterfall methodologies
  • Solid experience of Atlassian products
  • Some familiarity with content management systems and content-led projects
  • An interest in modern web technologies, development approaches, web standards, release management

We'd love it if you also had these skills, but they are not essential:

  • A working knowledge of Drupal content management systems
  • An appreciation of the creative process and an eye for digital design
  • An understanding/experience of business analysis as a discipline
