Senior UX Designer
We're seeking an experienced designer to join our UX & design team.
At Numiko, we create great digital for good. So, if you are the type of person who really cares about the type of clients you work with, then Numiko is the perfect agency for you. If you also happen to have a real passion for digital design, then we'd love to see your application.
We are looking for an experienced and talented UX designer with a keen design flair to join our team of digital specialists. In this role, you will be at the forefront of creating visually engaging, user-centered designs that are both intuitive and aligned with our clients’ brand identity. Your expertise in crafting component-based design systems in Figma will ensure consistency and scalability across our digital products, while your creative touch will elevate every project you work on.
We work with some of the best-known organisations in the world, helping to deliver award-winning, best-in-class digital experiences. Our clients include: The Eden Project, Cancer Research, The Booker Prizes, The British Museum, The Science Museum Group, Channel 4, Ofgem, Chatham House, Oxford University, The National Archives, Teenage Cancer Trust, and The Francis Crick Institute. As you can see, we choose to work with organisations that we believe make a positive difference in the world.
Key responsibilities:
- Creating design systems & components: Create and maintain component-based design systems in Figma, ensuring reusability, scalability, and consistency across all digital platforms.
- Working with brands: Collaborate with clients to either build brands from the ground up or evolve existing ones for digital experiences. Work alongside external brand teams and agencies to ensure brand guidelines are applied effectively in digital designs.
- Interaction design: Leverage your expertise in motion design to enhance the user experience and strengthen brand identity. You will create dynamic motion languages, design interactive elements, and develop concept pieces that bring designs to life, ensuring smooth, engaging interactions that align with both UX principles and brand guidelines.
- User-centreed design: You will consistently prioritise the user in every design decision, applying fundamental UX principles to improve the overall experience. By focusing on user flow, accessibility, and responsive design, you will create functional and visually engaging solutions for complex digital platforms, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user journey across all touchpoints.
- Client interaction & presentations: Work closely with clients, presenting your designs, explaining design rationales, and gathering feedback. You will serve as the design advocate, ensuring your solutions align with client needs and expectations.
- Feedback management: Manage feedback from clients and development teams effectively, incorporating input in a way that respects design integrity while meeting technical requirements.
- Leadership & ownership: Take full ownership of your projects, leading the design process from concept to delivery while maintaining a high standard of quality.
- Collaboration with internal teams: Work closely with colleagues, UX Specialists, and development teams to refine and iterate on design solutions, ensuring they meet user needs and align with best practices and technical constraints. You will collaborate on concepts, share knowledge, and support a seamless handoff, ensuring the efficient implementation of your designs while strengthening the overall design output of the team.
- Keeping up to date with industry trends and tools: Continuously stay on top of the latest design trends, emerging tools, technologies, and industry best practices. Seek out inspiration, attend relevant events, and experiment with new design techniques to keep your work fresh and innovative. Share new learnings with the team to inspire and elevate the overall design output.
The ideal candidate:
- Agency experience: Proven experience at a senior level in a similar digital agency environment, handling projects of comparable size and scope, and collaborating with clients of similar scale and complexity.
- Personal qualities: You are a diligent, informed, and creative team player who prioritises quality, user-centred solutions, and effective collaboration. You communicate constructively, stay engaged and curious to learn, and remain resilient under pressure, always supporting your colleagues and striving for continuous improvement.
- Learning, coaching, and mentoring: As a domain expert, you support the growth of the department and agency by mentoring junior staff, contributing to recruitment, advising on design challenges, and providing expertise on specific clients or projects. You also play a key role in planning, executing work, and occasionally contributing to new business efforts with your knowledge and insights.
- Understanding requirements: You ensure a thorough understanding of each project by reviewing relevant documentation, attending kickoffs, asking insightful questions, collaborating with PMs to clarify requirements, and incorporating user needs and discovery phase insights into the design/UX process.
- Good communication: You actively lead design workshops, participate in sprint and project ceremonies, and maintain strong communication with colleagues and clients, advocating for your design decisions, addressing risks, and ensuring alignment and understanding throughout the project.
- Fit-for-purpose design: You define and justify fit-for-purpose design solutions based on Discovery phase insights, ensuring they align with project budgets and timelines, are backed by data or professional reasoning, and consider implementation challenges, always aiming for simplicity, efficiency, and user-centered outcomes.
- Commitment to excellence: You are committed to excellence by advocating for users, clients, and the brand, pushing for high-quality solutions, exceeding client expectations, and delivering well-structured, thorough design/UX work that aligns with the Numiko brand and supports colleagues.
- Upholding and evolving processes: You uphold and contribute to the evolution of processes by following and ensuring consistency with Numiko's UX Design and Project Frameworks, using standardised methods, naming conventions, and providing clear annotations for your design/UX outputs.
Our culture
We cultivate a collaborative ‘one team’ approach, rather than the standard client-agency model. Whilst we are open, honest, plain-talking, efficient, and highly capable, our culture is sociable, informal and supportive. Our values are what holds our team together, so we’re only interested in hearing from people who can demonstrate the following:
- We do the right thing. We act with trustworthiness, understanding and empathy with each other and our clients.
- We work smart and simplify. We like simple, elegant solutions to problems. Our processes make it easy to get work done and easy for our clients to work with us.
- We are guides for our clients. We are trusted collaborators, providing clear, concise and confident explanations and advice.
- We have a can-do attitude. We take responsibility for our work, both individually and as a company.
- We have fun. Having fun is an essential part of working at Numiko. We develop great relationships with our clients and each other.
Getting Started
With lots to learn and new people to meet, we understand that starting a new job can be stressful. We’ve worked hard to create a comprehensive induction and onboarding process, so you can orient and familiarise yourself, steadily growing in confidence without being thrown in the deep end.

- We’ll ask you to come into the Numiko office.

- We’ll give you a short reading list, including our Employee Handbook and our fully documented Project Framework.
In your first week:
- We’ll set up one-to-one sessions with all departments, so you can get an understanding of what each department does and how they work together (we don’t outsource our work to third parties or have satellite offices).
- We’ll talk you through our company vision, values and strategy.
In your first month:
- We’ll set up several in-depth workshops for you such as: how a project moves through the agency from responding to a tender to in-life support; how we use data, user research and various requirement gathering techniques to inform and drive the creative process.
- We’ll give you some real-world project examples to look through.
- You’ll agree a structured personal development plan with your line manager.
