Join an award-winning agency where your research skills and UX thinking will help purpose-driven organisations build websites and experiences people can actually use.
Overview
The purpose of user research at Numiko is simple: to make sure every decision we make is grounded in what people really need, not what we assume they need.
Our Design & UX team is a multidisciplinary Venn diagram of designers, content strategists and UX specialists. We're growing, and we're looking for a Senior UX Researcher to own our user research practice and contribute to our UX pool.
You'll be joining an experienced team and helping to deliver Great Digital for Good for clients including the University of Oxford, The British Museum, Comic Relief, Chatham House, Ofgem, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the Electoral Commission, Channel 4 and The National Gallery. Every one of them exists to make a positive difference in the world.
Role description
This role is mainly about research, with a healthy dose of UX design. You'll own how we do user research at Numiko: planning it, running it, making sense of it and making sure it shapes the work. When projects need it, you'll also roll up your sleeves on UX tasks, from discovery workshops and journey mapping to information architecture and wireframes.
It's a blend of art and science. You’ll represent the people who use the websites we create, so their needs and behaviours inform every stage of the design process.
We're looking for someone curious, honest, plain-talking and highly capable. You'll be confident turning messy, complex information into clear insight that people can act on. You've probably been working in user research or UX for 4-5 years or more.
This role is being offered as a permanent, full-time position based in Leeds, though we are always open to hearing from candidates looking for part time, flexible and hybrid working patterns, particularly those returning to work after a career break. We support remote working, but the successful candidate will be asked to come into the office at least twice a week and travel to client offices on occasion (sometimes for 1 or 2 days at a time).
Your areas of responsibility will be:
Owning user research
- Own Numiko's user research practice, shaping how we plan, run and report research across every project
- Develop and maintain our research methods, templates, tools and consent and data handling processes, so the whole team can do good research consistently
- Plan and run qualitative and quantitative research, from interviews, surveys, card sorts and tree tests to usability testing with people using assistive technology.
- Recruit and look after research participants, making sure research is ethical, inclusive and accessible
- Analyse and synthesise findings into clear insights for teams and clients
- Support and mentor colleagues, sharing what works in research and helping to build a people-centred culture across the agency
- Help shape research and discovery proposals and pitches, working with Client Partners and our business development team
- Share what we learn through talks, blog posts and webinars, helping to build Numiko's reputation for research-led design
Shaping the experience
- Translate research findings into design recommendations that the whole project team can get behind
- Develop user profiles, personas and journey maps based on evidence
- Create information architecture, wireframes and taxonomies for large, complex websites
Working with clients
- Lead and collaborate on workshops with our clients to refine UX strategies
- Present research findings and ideas with clarity and passion, and receive feedback with an open mind
- Get buy-in for ideas within large organisations, using evidence to help clients make confident decisions
- Work across a range of sectors and client types, from universities and museums, to charities and public bodies
- Help clients get more confident using research, acting as a 'critical friend' who interrogates briefs and helps them make informed decisions
