A senior engineer who builds quality in, not bolts it on.
Overview
You'll own quality engineering at Numiko, setting the strategy, building the automation framework, and acting as the most trusted QA voice across our Drupal-powered client projects for universities, museums, and charities and more.
Your qualities
Your qualities
Expert
You're deeply knowledgeable about QA, and you’re generous in sharing that freely with developers, PMs, and leadership alike.
Decisive
You make sound, timely calls, sometimes with incomplete information, and understand the wider implications for the project and the agency.
A builder
You're energised by creating something from scratch, not maintaining what someone else has defined.
Collaborative
You work comfortably across disciplines, coaching developers, advising PMs, and influencing the leadership team.
Resilient
You're calm under pressure, take ownership of problems, and don't pass the buck.
Your skills
Your skills
Test automation
Hands-on Playwright experience, including page object models, fixtures, parallel execution, and trace-based debugging. (Essential)
Strong TypeScript or JavaScript coding ability, writing test code that meets the same quality bar as production code. (Essential)
Experience designing and building automation frameworks from scratch, covering test data strategies, environment configuration, and retry and reporting patterns. (Essential)
CI/CD and tooling
Experience configuring automated test execution and quality gating within CI/CD pipelines, working collaboratively with backend developers who own the wider pipeline and hosting infrastructure. (Essential)
Comfortable reading and contributing to pipeline configuration written by others, rather than owning the CI/CD stack end to end. (Essential)
Familiarity with test reporting tools such as Allure or Playwright HTML reporter. (Desirable)
Version control with Git, including branching strategies, pull request workflows, and keeping test code in sync with feature development across multiple concurrent projects. (Essential)
Comfortable using AI tooling as part of a daily engineering workflow, including code generation, test authoring, and defect triage. (Essential)
Able to write effective prompts to get useful output from AI tools, and critical enough to know when to trust that output and when to override it. (Essential)
CMS and Back-end
Familiarity with Drupal or equivalent CMS, including content types, views, user roles, permissions, and caching, well enough to write tests that reflect real-world behaviour. (Desirable)
Working knowledge of PHP sufficient to read and understand the code under test. (Desirable)
Experience testing RESTful APIs, including authentication flows and session handling. (Essential)
Collaboration, documentation and testing
Confident use of Jira or similar software for issue tracking, workflow management, bug reporting, and communicating testing progress. (Essential)
Ability to write & maintain clear, concise documentation that helps developers, PMs, clients, and future team members understand decisions, risks, and testing approaches. (Essential)
Strong manual testing skills, including exploratory testing, regression testing, and validating complex user journeys alongside automated coverage. (Essential)
Accessibility and standards
Understanding of WCAG 2.2 AA standards and how to test for compliance, using both automated tools and manual techniques. (Essential)
Experience with cross-browser and cross-device testing, including mobile viewports and assistive technology. (Desirable)
Leadership and process
Significant experience in a senior SDET or QA lead role, having owned a testing discipline rather than just contributed to one. (Essential)
Ability to define and communicate a quality strategy, covering test plans, coverage standards, and risk-based prioritisation across multiple concurrent projects. (Essential)
'Nice to haves'
